The NAWIC Education Foundation (NEF) has two wonderful awards for the Construction/Education Community.
Take a moment and think about your Chapter and your Region. There is someone who has made Construction Education a priority, a passion.
Go to the NEF Website www.nef-edu.org and nominate them for one of these National awards.
Help us recognize these women and men who shine a light on Construction Education.
First Award – Open to both men and women
Carol A. Kueker Construction Education Visionary Award
Do you know an Educator or Construction Education Advocate that you would like to see recognized on a National level who has a passion for and dedication to Construction Education? This award recognizes a Construction Industry Educator who has worked aggressively to promote Construction as a viable career path through training and education and/or has worked with Associations and other organizations to establish educational programs to advance and benefit employees in the Construction Industry.
Second Award – NEF Volunteer or NAWIC Member
Darline H. Johnson Volunteer Achievement Award
Established in 1993 this award recognizes an NEF volunteer or NAWIC member for outstanding service as a Volunteer for NEF on a local, regional and/or National Level. This award highlights the individual that has gone beyond what is normally expected. This award may not necessarily be awarded every year.
Applications can be submitted via the NEF website.
We had a wonderful experience in Anaheim for Annual Meeting and Conference from August 16 through 19. Lots of learning opportunities, lots of awards for South Central Region Chapters and members, and lots of friendships renewed and started.
Wednesday evening was the welcome party. With the Beach Party theme, many of our Chapters really had fun!
Thursday morning before the General Session, we gathered for our Region Meeting. It was great to see so many chapters represented, even those who only sent one representative.
During the General Session on Thursday morning, several Region members and Chapters received awards from National Chairs. The morning's session ended with the presentation of a quilt representing 96 Chapters to Retiring EVP Dede Hughes.
Thursday afternoon, there were several education sessions to attend: Strategies to Drive Career Success, High Performance Culture - Building a Team, Do the "Write" Thing, Thriving to Survive, and Cal-OSHA - On the Cutting Edge. The Thriving to Survive session featured Holly Hoffman, a contestant on the realty show "Survivor."
All day Friday featured more education sessions sandwiching the installation of the 2017-2018 National Board of Directors. South Central Region has two members on the National Board. Diane Mike of the Fort Worth Chapter will serve as Vice President, and Laurie Jimenez of the Houston Chapter will serve as Region Director.
The Friday night gala was a whirlwind of more presentations and awards. Congratulations to Shelie Gaffron, 2107 National Member of the Year! In a future post, all of the award winners will be featured with more details.
Saturday morning was another round of Education Sessions including one called Earthquake Design and Preparedness. Members who attended this session got to learn with Graham crackers and Marshmallow Crème.
Next year, AMEC will be held at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista - Disney Springs™ Area. Sure hope every chapter in South Central Region can be there.
