WELCOME TO NAWIC SOUTH CENTRAL REGION, LADIES!
by Ginger Ritchison
These are our two newest members. Amie Salinas on the left and Eliza Zapata on the right. These ladies will be assets to our chapter. Eliza is a member of our Board of Directors.
We had a great Christmas party at a member’s house and enjoyed getting to know each other better.
Some of our members volunteered to work with Enrich Seniors and put meals together and then deliver them to the elderly on Thanksgiving. We also wrapped gifts and delivered them to their homes for Christmas.
Our Block Kids Contest was held on January 27th and we had 5 kids participate from 1st grade to 6th grade. Our head judge was an instructor with the Greater Waco Advanced Manufacturing Academy (GWAMA). Good luck to our winner in the regional contest.
For WIC Week we have several things planned. We will be touring GWAMA and Skillpoint Alliance and have our meeting at the Waco Winery. Our members will volunteer with Esther’s Closet and help put up shelving in their storage room. Their vision statement is to equip and transform women to move them from poverty to self-sufficiency.
We have had speakers about using drones in the construction industry, improving women’s health and charity organizations.
Looking forward to the regional meetings coming up and getting to visit with other members from around the region.

The Corpus Christi Chapter attended the ASCE meeting in January to discuss our entering the Canstruction competition. The theme was “Coastal Living”. The competition was in February. We decided to build Rocky the crab who was once posted along the road in Rockport TX but sustained damage from Hurricane Harvey. We did not win, but we had a great time. I would like to thank our Engineer Member Jenna Clayton for chairing this event.
We held our Block Kids Competition at the end of January. It was very successful. We are now all ready for WIC Week. We received our proclamation on January 27, 2018. We will start with an Escape Room Game on Sunday March 4. We will attend the grand opening of Dress for Success who has a permanent home at the Sunrise Mall on March 8, 2018. We will be donating career clothing there as well. We will also be having our annual Hard Hat Walk on Saturday March 10, 2018.
The Tulsa Chapter had donated $500.00 in gift cards from Home Depot to go towards the effort to rebuild after Hurricane Harvey. After many attempts to give them to a worthy cause, we decided to give them to the AGC who has a Hurricane Harvey fund. They are rebuilding some areas in Rockport. We decided to do this during WIC Week. So, Tulsa Chapter be sure to add this to your WIC Week accomplishments. We thank you again for your generous support.
Marla Carter, Tulsa Chapter 76 President
Well it is officially WIC WEEK and the Tulsa Chapter has had a Robot Tour of how concrete baskets are made, our 2nd Annual Golf Tournament is Friday and Clean a Park on Saturday.
The Tulsa Chapter has been very very busy planning for Industry Appreciation Night and Forum 2018 which will both be here before we know it and there is still so much to do. We look forward to both of these events being top notch and unforgettable.
We have several awesome speakers lined up for the next couple of months and the remainder of the year we plan to concentrate on getting the Chapter back in excitement mode and build our membership by networking and having some mixers to educate possible new members about what NAWIC is all about and in the meantime determine what the existing members want to get out of NAWIC and make it happen.
Remember you get out of NAWIC what you put into it- give it your all!
Here’s to an AWESOME Year!!
